五年不復發，可視為安全了？

以前的癌症過來人，總會在治療後五年內不見復發而歡天喜地的報喜訊，因為醫學界往往會以五年為限期，說病人若能在治療後五年內不復發，就可視為痊癒了安全了，日後復發的機會會較微。真的嗎？

近數月所接觸的過來人，卻都在癌症獲治療的七至十年後紛紛復發！

今日，在癌症中心等候接受電療之際，與一位於2000年曾患乳癌的過來人閒聊，她告訴我，那年治療後醫生說若能在五年內不復發，她便可算痊癒及安全了，所以，過去幾年她一直以為自己已渡過高危期，甚為開心。然而今年因感週身痛而去看醫生時，經一連串的檢查及照鏡，才發現身上三四十多處有癌細胞，且全擴散至骨內。這下醫生才告訴她，癌細胞一直潛伏在她體內，只最近急促增長，才使情況嚴重及明顯化了。

她聽後甚為不悅，認為這醫生沒盡醫者的責任，便轉換醫生，就是我的化療醫生。幸而她是個喜與人交談的人，與她同一室等候時，室內每個陌生人都可成為她的談話對象，以致我這個向來較沉默、不善與陌生人交談的人，也可從她身上得到一些資訊。她坦然的分享，讓我知道過往以五年為限期，在今天已不適用了。她是第四個我所認識的過來人，在癌症治療五年後仍復發的人。

最近常聽的聖詩，是猫王皮禮士(Elvis Presley)唱的Peace in the Valley，歌詞中的”no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble”（不再有死亡,也不再有悲哀、哭號、疼痛），很震憾我心。隨著他發自內心而又微帶藍調的低沉歌聲，我心深深被觸動了，一切內心浮現的隱憂與牽掛，也隨著當中的歌詞得著安慰與寧靜。於是，翻閱聖經啟示錄廿一章，細細咀嚼當中的經文，為此而向神獻上感謝。因為這全是神給我們的應許。
